I keep them in a metal box with little padding of felt to keep them from rattling around. I sharpen my pencils with a snap-off knife and 220 sand paper. Cutting back the wood till I have a decent length to shape into a fine point. I like the Moleskine watercolor paper, the Leuchtturm 1917 paper is thinner with a tiny dot matrix. The vertical Moleskine sketchbooks have paper that is thick but resists watercolor. Ink or gouache works best. - [Brown books](https://www.erinotoole.com/brown-books/) - I was traveling light when I went to San Francisco for Word Camp. So I made a small loose sheet book with toned paper for sketches and white paper for notes. I punched them with my Circa punch and put them in a brown Arc notebook from Staples.
