Erin O’Toole is an art journalist and an oil painter. She paints realistic still life, animals and sketches of nature in her daily life. She lives in Northern California.
Her book, “Creating Your Own Artist’s Journal”, published by North Light Books, is about starting and keeping a visual journal. Beginning in your own backyard to taking field trips and sharing your drawings. The book has tips on materials, composition and working from memory. Create your own Artist’s Journal is designed to encourage us to take a closer look at the world we might other wise walk past.
As an illustrator Erin worked with editors and publishers on over 16 garden and wildlife books and several web sites. Clients included Sunset Books, Audubon and Fine Gardening, and Stackpole books.
She studied figure drawing and etching at Monterey Peninsula College and copper engraving at Humbolt State College. Her interest in oil painting began when she started exploring the American River looking for birds but finding beautiful scenes to paint. Studying with Fred Dalkey in Sacramento and later with David Leffel and Sherrie McGraw, oil painting is now her primary media.
