Roses

The warm glow of these yellow roses fades to white as they age. They grow along our back fence. Growing up to ten feet high every year and flowering for profusely in April. I love to paint them.

Erin Otoole rose oil painting

Setting up a still life with fresh flowers is challenging.

Growing my own roses I am able to gather flowers and keep the set up fresh. “Roses” was one of my favorite books that I illustrated for Sunset Garden Books. I drew and painted everything from growing roses on trellis to depicting their every bugs and disease.. As a painting subject they are superb, warm golden yellow to pale white in a large cabbage shaped bloom.
